US Election08: Do you agree with Obama's Afghanistan policy?

"Send at least two additional combat brigades to Afghanistan and seek greater contributions from NATO allies. Provide training for Afghan security forces and the Afghan judiciary. Spend an additional $1 billion in non-military assistance every year, with safeguards to prevent corruption. Support Pakistan's policy to secure the countries' shared border and crack down on terrorist camps. Combat narcotics trafficking by offering alternative livelihoods to poppy farmers."

Senator Obama- I fully agree. We need to destroy the poppy fields in Afghanistan. We also need to double the number of troops so that we can adequately secure the borders to prevent the terrorists from being able to move freely. We can win in Afghanistan and bring Osama Bin Laden to justice!

"A power that dominates Eurasia would control two of the world's three most advanced and economically productive regions. A mere glance at the map also suggests that control over Eurasia would almost automatically entail Africa's subordination..." Zbigniew Brzezinski. Obama's statements on foreign policy are actually Brzezinski's staements. "So the Question should really be "Do you agree with Brzezinski?" or "Does Obama agree with Brzezinski's perspective on Africa in the above quote?"

These Q has two parts , therefore more challenging to answer an alternative type of Q: First part: disagree: stay out of Afghanistan. Second part: Agree: Combat narcotics trafficking by offering alternative livelihoods to poppy farmers.

Find out what representatives of the United Nations want. Terrorism is a world problem. It would be better if our country stopped just going and doing things without considering what the rest of the world wants on world issues. Makes us look really arrogant.

Why destroy the poppy fields? That's just insane. Why doesn't the US (or other countries) give the growers more money to produce for them? And provide their fields with oversight and regulations thus breaking the drug chain. It would be hard to do at first but in the long term all would benefit. Poppy seeds make great muffins and they can be used to make important medicines such a morphine.

It's too bad the American government had to take their proverbial eye off the ball and invade Iraq. I agree with the refocusing on Afghanistan but disagree with the narcotics battling because it simply will not work. So long as dealers are offering more incentives to people growers will sell to them. And why would these people trust a government they are not fully trusting of to give them a 'better' lively hood? In their position I'd be suspicious.

why help those who are unwilling to help themselves and focus it back on those in our own country who do need the help. its time for foreign countries to stand on their own two feet. bring our troops and ally troops home.

i m tired of everyone knocking americans for tryin to help because politicians do it mostly for wrong reasons. Granted 9/11 was a good reason to go looking for Osama. we dont need to be in their country if they are not willing to fight for themselves then get outta there. why should ally and american troops be dying for those who have no desire to stand for themselves. We dont need their oil and I tired of americans getting bashed.

In my opinion, alternative livelihoods to poppy fields must generate the same, if not more income for Poppy farmers. Destroying the poppy fields will substantially decrease the Taliban's funds, however, it must be noted that poppy farmers must be given reasons and incentives as to why they must lose their income, and what must be done to educate these people and bring them into the 21st century.
I honestly hope that you consider the opinions expressed here.

every thing that Obama has planned for Afghanistan is fine. except, Pakistan. that nation is a hub for all finds of terrorists and the best way to stop world terror is to clear their safe havens. and Pakistan is just that. so go ahead with the afghan plan but stay away from pak!
